Things you have to invest.

If you read my blog regularly, you might have noticed there has not been much (actually anything) from me in the last few weeks.  Here's the story why. I am one of five children.  One of the hardest things about living in Cayman is being away from my parents and siblings.  The five of us are close in age, with just seven years between the youngest and the oldest.  Between us we are soon to have eleven children (there are three more due in the beginning of 2018).  Family is everything to me.  My closest sister to me in age has been visiting us for the past two weeks with her husband and one year old son.  It's the first time in years that the two of us have had real time together.  They left on the BA flight last night.

I talk to people every day about the importance of having conscious thought around what you do with your money.  But money is only one of our resources to invest.  Time is another.  And money and time really go hand in hand.  I try very hard to practice what I preach (every financial advisor should) and so I spend a lot of time thinking about what is important to me (my values) and how I spend my time and my money.  I often ask myself if those things are inline.

Knowing my values made my decision to focus the past two weeks on my sister and her family easy.  I normally do my writing in the evenings and at the weekends, but that's just when I wanted to be chatting, relaxing and making memories with them.  A few years ago I would have felt guilty about it, but knowing the WHY behind the decision made it guilt-free and easy.

So remember, money is not the only thing you have to invest.
